Great Day for Dogs at WBL Championships!

Friday evening was the final day of the annual Western Buckeye League Track and Field Championships, hosted by Ottawa-Glandorf in this year.  On a perfect day for track and field the Bulldog Tracksters did everything they could to win a championship.  After a great day on Wednesday the Dogs followed with another outstanding day on Friday...one in which CHS won six events, had a number of top three finishes, three school records, two WBL meet records, any many career best performances.  Unfortunately the Defiance Bulldogs had just a little more.  In what seemed like a dual meet by meet's end, the Defiance Dogs edged the Celina Dogs in both the Boys and Girls title chases.  The Defiance Guys outscored the Runnin' Dogs 114 to 111.  Wapakoneta's men were third with 88.  The Defiance Women edged the Runnin' Women 135 to 120.  Ottawa-Glandorf's ladies placed third with 94.

The Bulldogs were led by its seniors. 

The senior female quartet of Julie Snyder, Eryn Langenkamp, Katie Hague, and Melissa Roth accounted for 83 individual points.  Julie won all four of her events, two with 'School' and 'WBL Meet' record efforts.  On Wednesday Julie won the HJ (5' 2").  Friday she got things started with a 'School' and 'Meet' record of 18' 7" in winning the LJ.  Minutes later she again broke school and meet records with a 14.72 clocking in the 100 hurdles.  Her last victory came via a career fastest time of 25.94 in the 200-meter dash.  Eryn Langenkamp started her day with a runner-up finish (to Julie) in the long jump.  Eryn soared 17' 1" to take second.  Ten minutes after Julie's hurdle win, Eryn broke her own Celina 'School' record in winning the 100-meter dash.  Eryn's time of 12.58 won the fastest 100-meter dash finals in WBL history, as all six girls crossed the line under 13 seconds.  Eryn's day concluded with a runner-up finish in the 300-meter hurdles (47.12).  Katie Hague had the best meet of her four year career.  Katie placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.90) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (48.48), both in career fastest times.  She, and Eryn were also members of the winning 4 x 100 relay.  Katie's splits in both the 4 x 200 and 4 x 100 relays were her fastest ever.  Melissa Roth took sixth in the 1600-meter run, running one second off her personal best (5:28.53).  In the 3200 run Mel (11:33.39) knocked 13 seconds off her previous best time to take second. 

The Men were led by seniors Kelby Rosengarten and Brad Smith.  Kelby won the 300-meter hurdles in a career best 39.27.  His day began with a runner-up placing in the 110 HH (15.04) and ended with a fifth place in the 200-meter dash (23.38).  Brad crossed the line second in the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 2:01.09.  He was also a member of the winning 4 x 800 relay and third place 4 x 400 relay.

Other 'Top Dog' performances came from the winning Girls 4 x 100 relay (Katie Hague, Cayla Hellwarth, Kelsey Waterman, Eryn Langenkamp), the third place 4 x 200 relay (Hague, Waterman, Hellwarth, Megan Thobe), the fourth place 4 x 400 relay (LaRae Dorsten, Ashley Coon, Hellwarth, Waterman), the third place 4 x 400 relay (Caleb Fickert, Caleb Wilson, Spencer Foulkes, Brad Smith), the fifth place 4 x 200 relay (Andy Sutter, Smith, Foulkes, Wilson), Aaron Snyder (2nd in the discus), Spencer Foulkes (4th in the 800 - career fastest time), Andrew Goodwin (4th in the 1600 - career fastest time, 3rd in the 3200), Peter Starnes (6th in the 3200 run - career fastest time), Blake Moran (3rd in the 110 HH - career fastest time, 4th in the 300 IH, 4th in the LJ - career best), Kelsey Waterman (6th in the 400), Cayla Hellwarth (6th in the PV), LaRae Dorsten (6th in the 800 - season best time). 

On Wednesday Jacob Archer won the SP, Todd Hertel and Luke Bonvillian placed 1-2 in the PV, and the Boys 4 x 800 relay (Foulkes, Isaiah Schmackers, Nate Gunter, Smith) won.  Lindsey Watercutter was third in the discus, LeAnn Ward fifth in the discus, and the 4 x 800 relay (Dorsten, Cassie Mosier, Roth, Coon) placed third.

Next up for the Dogs...District action at tiffin on Wednesday and Friday.
