Bulldogs off to excellent start in WBL Championship Meet!

Wednesday evening was the opening day of the annual Western Buckeye Track and Field Championship Meet, hosted by Ottawa-Glandorf.  Seven events were competed as FINALS on Wednesday, with the Bulldogs doing quite well.  On the Men's side CHS WON three of the four events contested.  The Ladies WON 1 of their events and scored in all three. 

The Men were led by an outstanding effort by the 4 x 800 relay, a quartet consisting of Spencer Foulkes, Isaiah Schmackers, Nate Gunter, and Brad Smith.  The foursome knocked 20 seconds off their previous best time in WINNING the race, just nipping Defiance 8:18.28 to 8:18.36.  Spencer led off with a career best 2:03.60, followed by Isaiah's career best 2:06.03, Nate's career best 2:08.53, and anchor Brad's career best 2:00.13.  Jacob Archer followed the 4 x 8's win with a career best effort of 52' 0.5" to WIN the shot put.  Minutes later Todd Hertel and Luke Bonvillian both cleared 12' 6" in taking the top two spots in the pole vault.  Todd WON the event with less misses than Luke.  In the long jump, Blake Moran squeaked into the finals (seventh spot), but leaped to fourth place on his final jump with a career best 19' 9.5".  With the three wins, a second, and a fourth, the Dogs finished the night with 42 points, good for first place in the team standings after day 1.  Top contenders Defiance and Wapakoneta are second and third with 21 and 20 points respectively.

The Ladies were led by Julie Snyder's WIN in the high jump.  Jules cleared 5' 2" in taking the top spot.  The Ladies 4 x 800 relay of LaRae Dorsten, Cassie Mosier, Melissa Roth, and Ashley Coon ran a season best time of 10:03.70 to place third.  In the Ladies' other event final, the discus, Lindsey Watercutter and LeAnn Ward garnered valuable points as they finished third and fifth respectively.  Lindsey hurled the disc 101' 11" and LeAnn 94' 8".  Lindsey's toss in the finals jumped her from sixth after the prelim rounds to third in the final standings.  The Ladies ended the day in second place with 24 points, 8 behind Defiance's 32.

All of the other event finals are scheduled for Friday, beginning at 5:00.

Running prelims in the sprints, hurdles, and relays also took place on Wednesday.  The top six times in each prelim qualified to Friday's finals.
