Todd and Luke make it to 'State'!

February 21, 2009
By Daniel Otten of Celina High School

Thursday was 'Diving Day' at the Bowling Green Division II District Swim/Dive Championship.  Eight Celina divers were competing for spots at next Wednesday's 'State Division II Championship' event in Canton.  Of the 32 competitiors in each of the Women's and Men's competitions 4 Ladies and 4 Men were representing the green and white of Celina.  The top 6 placers in each event earned the right to go to 'State'.

Celina was well represented in the final standings as 4 of CHS's 8 divers earned team points, with 2 divers finishing in the all important 'top 6'.  Seniors Todd Hertel and Luke Bonvillian had outstanding afternoons as they were at their best, placing 2nd and 3rd respectively.  Todd accumulated 368.10 points with Luke totaling 342.40.  The duo will dive on Wednesday, Feb 25 at 2:00 in Canton.  T J Spengler made it through the two rounds of cuts to finish all 11 of his dives, and finish 15th (265.00 points).  The top 16 scorers earned team points.  Luke Davis was eliminated after the first cut, with a total of 113.20 pts.

The Ladies were led by freshman Dethora Hasenjager.  Dethora made it through the cuts to finish 11 dives and total 267.70 pts, good for the 13th spot.  CHS's other three divers were eliminated at the first cut.  Cassie Mosier was 23rd (114.35 pts), Morgan Weininger was 25th (107.35 pts), and Tessa Townsend ended up 26th with 106.60 points.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DIVING COACH DAVE KOESTERS AND THE 8 DIVING DOGS!  Continued success Todd and Luke at 'State'.
