Home » Cross Country NewsAndrew Goodwin is going to 'State'!October 29, 2008 By Daniel Otten of Celina High SchoolSaturday afternoon the Celina Men traveled to Pickerington for participation in the Pickerington Division I Regional Meet. Sixteen 'big school' squads, including the Dogs, plus 17 individuals were there to compete for spots in the OHSAA State Cross-Country Meet which is Saturday, November 1 at Scioto Downs. In order to earn a slot at 'State' a 'team' had to finish in the top four, and any 'individual' had to be one of the first 16 to cross the line. Although the Bulldogs failed to qualify as a team to 'State' they improved on their 2007, 14th place finish by taking 10th in the 2008 competition. Hilliard Davidson won the Region with 76 points. Hilliard Darby was 2nd with 87, followed by Reynoldsburg 99, and Lexington 135. The Dogs totaled 238 points. ![]() However...for the first time in 17 years (and only the 5th time ever) Celina will be represented in Columbus by a male runner. Junior Andrew Goodwin triggered the electronic finish device in 16:30, good for 16th place of the 129 harriers, to claim the final 'State' qualifying spot. Andrew worked through the field...from 30th place at the 1-mile mark, to 22nd at the 2-mile spot, to 18th at the 3-mile and 16th by the 3.1-mile mark. Senior Mitch Williams was CHS's number two runner as he took 33rd (16:53). Seniors Luke Bonvillian (17:22) and Peter Starnes (17:25) capped off their successful careers with 61st and 65th place results. Junior Nate Gunter ran 18:16 (112th) as Celina's final scorer. Senior Eric Ballinger (114th, 18:19) and Zach Besand (126th, 18:51) completed the varsity seven. Andrew takes to the Scioto Downs course on Saturday, November 1 at 12:35 in the Division I State championship Race. PREVIOUS CELINA MEN WHO HAVE RUN AT THE STATE CC MEET.
