Home » Cross Country NewsBulldog Men advance to Pickerington Regional Meet!October 18, 2008 By Daniel Otten of Celina High SchoolSaturday afternoon the Celina CC Bulldogs traveled to Galion for participation in the Galion District Meet. Both the Men and Women had hopes of keeping their season alive with successful runs. The Men, running in Division I, needed to place in the top two teams in order to advance to the Pickerington Regional Meet. The Women needed a top four team result to advance to the Tiffin Division II Regional. The Men, although not running their fastest performances of season, accomplished their primary goal...advancing to Pickerington, by virtue of CHS's second place team finish. Lexington won for the second year in a row, with the Dogs taking second for the second consecutive season. Mitch Williams headed the Pack of Dogs with his 5th place, 16:27 finish. Andrew Goodwin was just behind in 7th, 16:39. Peter Starnes was just off his personal best with a 11th, 17:09 result. Luke Bonvillian (14th, 17:24) and Nate Gunter (20th, 17:45) completed the Celina scoring. Eric Ballinger (21st, 17:51) and Zach Besand (30th, 18:23) were displacers. Three younger Dogs ran in the 'open race'. Jared Owens ran a 20:10, Tyler Thitoff a 21:40, and Kody Goodwin a 21:49. The Ladies had a good day, but a strong field of 14 Division II teams combined with untimely Bulldog injuries and illnesses offset four 'personal best' Celina efforts as the Girls failed to advance to Regional. The Women placed 11th in the field. Marissa Gibbons (21:10) lowered her personal best time by :37 as she took 30th as she led the Lady Dogs. Lydia Buchhardt (21:54) was next for the Runnin\' Women in 52nd, followed Micah Engle (55th, personal best 22:02), Tessa Townsend (62nd, 22:22), Cassie Mosier (63rd, personal best by :58 in 22:25), and Jamie Owens (81st, career best 24:28). Claire Schmitmeyer began the race with a knee injury and was forces to drop out after .75 of a mile. LaRae Dorsten injured her ankle earlier in the week and did not even make the trip to Galion. Junior Rachel Young who missed the whole season with shredded tendons in her ankle ran her first 5000-meters of the season, jogging through the 'open race'.
