Andrew Goodwin WINS Western Buckeye League Championship!

Saturday morning the Celina CC Squad took part in the annual Western Buckeye League Championship Meet, this year hosted by Defiance High School. The cool, blustery weather didn't hamper some excellent performances from the Runnin' Dogs. The Celina day was highlighted by the WBL Championship run of senior Andrew Goodwin  . Andrew worked his way to the front of the pack by the mile mark to battle Defiance's senior Trevin Flickinger for the final two point one miles. In the end, it was Andrew winning the title by a :06 margin. Andrew crossed the line in a time of 16:11. He becomes the fourth Celina guy to win a WBL individual title, the first since Tim Hamen's win in 1992. For the Women, Ashley Figel  earned 'All WBL First Team' by virtue of her 3rd place overall result. For the second week in a row, and for her career, Ashley finished the 5000-meter distance under 20:00 with a time of 19:58. Junior Ashley Coon (21:25)  improved her personal best time by :41 as she took 17th place, which garnered her 'Special Mention All WBL' accolades. Other 'Top Dog' efforts were career best runs of Chris Nusbaum (18:13), Zach Mitchell (19:05), Peyton Jones (19:19), Andrew Huff (21:20), Paige Dortsen (23:26), and Megan Thobe (23:28). Jared Owens, Katlin Robinson, Claire Schmitmeyer, and Marissa Gibbons were all contributing members in the team scoring (top 5 of a team) with Kevin Siebert as a displacer (6th or 7th on team). Senior Jamie Owens ran her 4th and final WBL meet.
In the team competition the Celina Men placed 6th of the 10 schools. Defiance defended its title of a year ago. The Ladies came in fourth with Van Wert winning the distaff division.
